Welcome to Foadaan!

Foadaan – meaning stewards of the forest – was founded as a community based organization located in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District of Northeastern Ghana to address the reapidly accelerating forest depletion of the area and to encourage the use of renewable energy as part of the solution.

With help from international contacts and organizations, it is hoped that Foadaan will be able to realize our goal which is to prevent environmental degradation and forestate degraded lands using poverty alleviation and education as a tool.

Our Objectives

  • To Combat fast forest depletion in Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District and beyond
  • To inculcate the habit of planting trees and taking care of them till maturity
  • To launch a sustainable environmental education campaign in Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District of Northern Ghana
  • To setup a gas project to promote the use of bio gas as household fuel instead of charcoal. This will be a measure to reduce pressure on the forest
  • To promote rabbit and grass cutter breeding and poultry (guinea fowl) farming in the area as means of reducing hunting and bush fires
  • To reverse the trend of falling standards in education through provision of solar energy and computers to schools in deprived communities
